US Steel moving forward with ARC Furnace

US Steel announced today that will be moving forward with its electric ARC furnace at it’s plant in Fairfield, AL which is just west of Birmingham, AL. The project is expected to cost $215 million and bring an estimated 150 full time jobs. This will boost production of the facility of from around 720,000 tons annually to about 1.6 million tons annually. US Steel says it expects the furnace to start producing steel sometime in the second half of 2020.

Blue Origin moves forward in Huntsville, AL

Blue Origin is moving forward with a new 200,000 square foot rocket engine facility on 46 acres in Huntsville, AL. The facility will be located in Huntsville’s Cummings Research park. They expect the project once complete will create 300 jobs. The Blue Origins BE-4 rocket engine which can produce 550,000 pounds of thrust will be produced at the facility. They expect the project to be done sometime in 2020.
